LOS ANGELES (June 26, 2015) – Geffen Playhouse has exciting news to announce. The critically acclaimed and popular production Bad Jews by Joshua Harmon and directed by Matt Shakman extends by one week through July 26. Following the close of Bad Jews in the Gil Cates Theater, Hershey Felder as Irving Berlin will return for an extension engagement performing August 4-16. Bad Jews and Irving Berlin are among five current season productions to extend due to audience demand; the others are The Gospel According to Thomas Jefferson, Charles Dickens and Count Leo Tolstoy: Discord by Scott Carter, which nearly doubled its original run; Switzerland by Joanna Murray-Smith; and the current off-Broadway hit Murder for Two with book and music by Joe Kinosian and book and lyrics by Kellen Blair, which has been extended four additional weeks through August 2 in the Audrey Skirball Kenis Theater. Geffen Playhouse is also announcing that a new show from acclaimed conjurer Derek DelGaudio in the Audrey Skirball Kenis Theater will be the eighth and final season production of the not-for-profit’s landmark 20th anniversary season. DelGaudio was the writer and co-star of the 2011 production Nothing to Hide which was directed by Neil Patrick Harris. After extending for several months and breaking multiple box office records the show transferred to New York’s Signature Theatre. DelGaudio has been twice been named the “Close-Up Magician of the Year,” by The Academy of Magical Arts. Executive Director Gil Cates, Jr. said, “It’s incredibly gratifying that we’re able to offer additional performances to deepen and broaden our relationships with artists and the community at large. These announcements are invitations to a wider audience – many of whom are new to the theater – to enjoy the plays and special events that have so clearly resonated with our current subscribers and donors; these include this week’s sell-out performances: Lee England, Jr., an extraordinarily gifted musician who came to us through Founding Board Trustee Quincy Jones, and a Girls Night Out performance of Bad Jews. I can’t think of a better way to build anticipation for our coming 20th anniversary season.” Bad Jews has not only been a hit with audiences, it has been a hit with critics as well. The Hollywood Reporter said, "Brims with bile and belly laughs. For audiences of all stripes!" LA Weekly said, “GO!
