Herb Newsome is an actor/writer from NYC. Selected theater credits include Paradise Blue (Geffen Playhouse), A Raisin in the Sun (Fresno City Theater), Macbeth and Richard III (Colorado Shakespeare Festival), A Fox on the Fairway (Lyric Rep), Revenge of a King (National Black Theater Festival), Take Me Out (Foothills Theatre Company), Re:Definition (La MaMa E.T.C.), and five August Wilson plays—Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (Kuntu Rep), Jitney (Elmwood Playhouse), The Piano Lesson and Radio Golf (Penn State Centre Stage), and Fences (Lyric Rep). He has written and performed in three solo shows: In Devil’s Heaven, Break It Down, and FreeMan in Paris. His full-length play Revenge of a King, a hip-hop musical based on Shakespeare’s Hamlet, has been produced in eight cities across the country as well as the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown, South Africa.
