Committed to giving a voice to the silenced, Francesca Lalanne has developed an illuminating practice that embraces experimentation with unconventional materials and an amalgamation of artistic approaches. Whether etched or fabricated, her manipulations of steel, and wood, amongst others, speak to the weight of her subject matter. Often suspended in moments of catharsis, her figures’ dynamic poses interact with her orchestrations of line and geometry, revealing new physical architectures and mental spaces we inhabit. The intentionality of Lalanne’s colors, mediums, and compositions fuse into a visual vocabulary of confession. She invites us into the liminal and ever-shifting realms of reality and the hidden so that we may question the state of our world and our existence within it. Francesca was born in South Florida to Haitian parents and earned her Master of Fine Arts from Rochester Institute of Technology. She currently lives and works in Los Angeles.
