Beth Hyland is a playwright and screenwriter based in Southern California. Her plays and musicals include SYLVIA SYLVIA SYLVIA (Williamstown Theatre Festival, Geffen Playhouse), Fires, Ohio (Portland Center Stage, Goodman Theatre, The Story Theatre), Cancelina (Wagner New Play Festival, Baby Teeth, Bramble Theatre Company), Baby Shower Katie (National Capital New Play Festival), Seagulls (The Sound at Steppenwolf LookOut, Octagon Theatre Bolton, Oak Park Festival Theatre), and Clearing (Commission Theatre, A Short Leap Theatre Company). She is the 2024 recipient of the L. Arnold Weissberger New Play Award and Jay Harris New Play Commission and a two-time recipient of The Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival’s Mark Twain Prize for Comic Playwriting. She currently holds commissions from Manhattan Theatre Club/Sloan, Williamstown Theatre Festival, and Rivendell Theatre Ensemble. She is a soon-to-be graduate of UC San Diego’s M.F.A. in Playwriting under the mentorship of Naomi Iizuka and Deborah Stein. www.bethhyland.com
