Akilah most recently led the production of The Bluest Eye as “Pecola Breedlove” at A Noise Within, for which she was nominated “Best Performer in a Play” by BroadwayWorld Los Angeles Awards. She was also seen in the world premiere of Marty and the Hands That Could at WACO Theater Center in 2023. Akilah holds an M.F.A. in acting from American Conservatory Theater and a B.A. in theatre from Fordham University. Akilah has been seen on stage at The Classical Theatre of Harlem, New York Stage and Film, and Berkeley Repertory Theatre, to name a few. Akilah is also a director/writer/producer and co-founder of Good Mother Films. Akilah was named “Best First Time Director (Female)” by the Independent Shorts Awards for her directorial debut short film Ivar Tunnel: Shook Ones, which made its television debut on REVOLT. Akilah is a 2022 Directing Fellow in the Netflix/NALIP Latino Lens Narrative Short Film Incubator for Women of Color for Pedacito de Carne, a short film raising awareness for dementia and millennial caregivers.
