OVERVIEW

Mission: Geffen Playhouse is a non-profit, professional theater dedicated to enriching the cultural life of Los Angeles through plays and educational programs that inform, entertain and inspire.

POSITION SUMMARY

Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles, CA seeks resume submissions for local AEA Production Stage Managers and Assistant Stage Managers for its upcoming season and events. Typical productions at the Geffen Playhouse rehearse 6 days a week ahead of 7-show performance weeks, in accordance with the LORT Collective Bargaining Agreement with AEA. This position reports to the Director of Production.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to:

  • Management of rehearsal and performances
  • Schedule coordination with Director and performers
  • Prepare all show operation paperwork, including call scripts, cue sheets, reports, and schedules
  • Direct and assist stage crew in show operation, including cue calling and potential backstage tracks
  • Liaise with Production Department staff as part of the production process, including filing daily rehearsal and performance reports
  • Reflect a commitment to the Geffen’s Mission and DEI Statement
  • Facilitate communication between production, cast, and crew

SKILLS & BACKGROUND

  • Fundamental knowledge of standard theatrical production practices
  • Minimum 3 years of Stage Management working in professional non-profit or commercial theater companies
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (or other comparable productivity suites)
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs a plus
  • Strong leadership skills coupled with a calming presence
  • Well organized, adaptable, and proactive
  • Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Positive attitude and ability to work in a collaborative manner to achieve production objectives

REQUIREMENTS

  • Candidates must be a member of Actor’s Equity Association in good standing
  • Candidates must reside in the greater Los Angeles area
