Cast Announced for Geffen Playhouse Production of “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?”

LOS ANGELES (March 15, 2022) – Geffen Playhouse today announced the full cast for its production of Edward Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, directed by Gordon Greenberg (Guys and Dolls, Irving Berlin’s Holiday).

The cast includes Aimee Carrero (The Portuguese Kid, What Rhymes with America) as Honey, Calista Flockhart (Ally McBeal, Neil LaBute’s bash) as Martha, Graham Phillips (13: The Musical, The Good Wife) as Nick and Zachary Quinto (Star Trek franchise, The Boys in the Band) as George.

Previews for Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? begin Tuesday, April 19 in the Gil Cates Theater at Geffen Playhouse. Opening night is Thursday, April 28.

George and Martha, the American theater’s most notoriously dysfunctional couple, have invited the young and naive Nick and Honey over for drinks. What begins as harmless patter escalates to outright marital warfare, with the provincial newcomers caught in the crossfire. We are thrilled to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the hilarious and harrowing Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, arguably Edward Albee’s most famous and most vicious masterpiece.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Edward Albee (Playwright)
Edward Albee was born on March 12, 1928 and began writing plays 30 years later. His plays include The Zoo Story (1958), The Death of Bessie Smith (1959), The Sandbox (1959), The American Dream (1960), Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1961-62, Tony Award), Tiny Alice (1964), A Delicate Balance (1966, Pulitzer Prize; 1996, Tony Award), All Over (1971), Seascape (1974, Pulitzer Prize), Listening (1975), Counting the Ways (1975), The Lady from Dubuque (1977-78), The Man Who Had Three Arms (1981), Finding the Sun (1982), Marriage Play (1986-87), Three Tall Women (1991, Pulitzer Prize), Fragments (1993), The Play About The Baby (1997), The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia? (2000, 2002 Tony Award), Occupant (2001), At Home at the Zoo (Act 1, Homelife; Act 2, The Zoo Story) (2004), and Me, Myself and I (2008). He is a member of the Dramatists Guild Council, and President of The Edward F. Albee Foundation. Gordon Greenberg (Director)

Aimee Carrero (Honey)
Aimee Carrero is thrilled to be making her Geffen Playhouse debut! Calista Flockhart (Martha)
Calista Flockhart is delighted to be at Geffen Playhouse. Some of her favorite roles include Natasha in Three Sisters, Irina in Three Sisters, Laura in The Glass Menagerie, Juliet in Romeo and Juliet, Cordelia in King Lear, Sue in bash: Latterday Plays, and Robin in Sophistry, among others. Additional theater credits include The Loop, Sons and Fathers, Wrong Turn at Lungfish, All for One, Beside Herself, Bover Boys, Death Takes a Holiday, and Mad Forest. On television Calista appeared in Ally McBeal, Brothers & Sisters, and Supergirl. Film credits include The Birdcage, Telling Lies in America, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Things You Can Tell Just by Looking at Her.

Graham Phillips (Nick)
Graham Phillips began his career as a soloist at the New York City and Metropolitan Operas before starring in the Broadway cast of Jason Robert Brown’s 13: The Musical. He has performed in a variety of roles on film and television, including leads in the films Goats, Evan Almighty, XOXO, Staten Island Summer, and Blockers. He also has been recurring on the television series Riverdale and Atypical, and starred in ABC’s The Little Mermaid Live. He was a series regular on The Good Wife until attending Princeton University where he received his B.A. in the History department. With his brother, Parker, he wrote and directed his first feature, The Bygone, a neo-western thriller. Their second feature, Rumble Through the Dark, staring Aaron Eckhart and based on the novel by Michael Farris Smith, is in the final stages of post-production.

Zachary Quinto (George)
Quinto is best known for his acting roles in Star Trek and its sequels. His other film roles include Margin Call, Snowden, and The Boys in the Band. He has also starred in a multitude of TV roles including Heroes, NOS4A2, The Slap, Girls, American Horror Story, So Notorious and 24. On stage, Quinto has appeared in Angels in America, The Glass Menagerie, Smokefall, and most recently in the Tony Award winning revival of The Boys in the Band. His production company, Before the Door Pictures was launched in 2008, developing projects across film, television, and other media.
