Mel Brooks Is Back

And this time you can watch the show from the comfort of your own home. On Saturday, January 31, HBO will air the quadruple threat’s first solo stage production, Mel Brooks: Live at the Geffen.

After seeing Bette Midler perform I’ll Eat You Last: A Chat with Sue Mengers, Brooks reached out to the Geffen and asked if the theater would host his own one-man show. The resulting one-night-only, sold-out performance was a huge smash. Happily, HBO captured the legend as he talks about his Brooklyn childhood and marriage to Anne Bancroft, sings “Blazing Saddles” and takes questions from the audience.

Want even more Brooks? He’ll also appear on HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher this Friday night. (Connect the Geffen dots! Scott Carter wrote The Gospel According to Thomas Jefferson, Charles Dickens and Count Leo Tolstoy, which played to critical praise last fall at the Geffen. He’s also the executive producer of Real Time.)

Brooks, who holds the distinction of winning Tony, Emmy, Grammy and Academy Awards, has written and directed numerous comedies including The Producers, Young Frankenstein and Spaceballs.

Mel Brooks: Live at the Geffen will premiere on HBO Saturday, January 31 at 9 pm.
